MA BELLS

(FOOD, PHONE, AND LONG DISTANCE BAR)

Ma Bells was situated in Shubert Alley, just across from the world-renowned Shubert Theater, with each table having a 1930s telephone that worked. Phone calls were on the house, with businessmen making calls at lunch and theater-going mothers phoning their sitters at night. Over the bar and covering its walls hung a gallery of famous people on the phone making juicy remarks.
